We live in a world of multiple devices and formats..Compressor can convert your Final Cut Pro projects into files for new and old media players. The program comes at no extra cost when you purchase Final Cut Studio

I have grown to appreciate how it converts my High Definition Time-lines into Standard Definition Video & Audio Files.  I use these to create standard DVDs using DVD Studio Pro.

TIP #1

The most common mistake is FORGETTING TO DRAG A DESTINATION ONTO THE CLIP SETTINGS.....If you see an exclamation Mark ! ..or receive an error message.. this is most likely due to a missing destination.

Below is a step by step process in the basics of using Compressor.

Step Two:  Choose the Format you want to convert your file to.

There are a lot of settings...I tend to use Compressor as a way to convert high definition Time-lines into standard definition. Remember when making a DVD you must Select Both an Audio and Video Format ...that means you will be dragging two settings onto the clip.

It does not matter what HD Format you shot in...you can convert to any ot the below formats..and lots more.

Step Three: Drag and Drop Settings

Next..SELECT and DRAG and Drop the settings you want into the empty space next to the clip's icon.

Step Four: Create a Custom Destination

Drag & Drop on to the file's settings

After selecting the files new SETTINGS.  YOU MUST THEN DRAG A DESTINATION ONTO THE SAME SETTINGS .

It's a Good Idea to CUSTOMIZE a Destination.. to insure the new file is easy to find and on a drive with enough empty space.

To create a new Destination....you must hit the "Plus +" Symbol and Select LOCAL

dest

Select the new drive and folder destination for this new file.....click the flashing "OPEN" Button

new dest

a new Custom destination folder will appear..then click/drag this on top of the settings you previously applied to the clip.

You will see the new destination in the middle column.

Step Five: Let's start Compressing!

Click on the submit Button...then a new dialogue box opens...name this new file..and it will start compressing.

The great thing about compressor is you can line up as many clips to be processed as you want...just go thru the steps again and you will see the line of clips waiting to be converted and the status of the files progress.

Compressor does not "Lock" you out of Final Cut Pro. You can use both programs at the same time.

Once the clip has been processed it will appear in the customized destination folder you created.
